When people compare CBD drinks, one of the first things they tend to look at is the number on the front.
-
5mg.
-
10mg.
-
20mg.
-
Sometimes much more.
It is an easy thing to compare, so it naturally becomes shorthand for how “strong” a product must be.
But CBD is not quite that simple.
At SKïP, our current CBD drinks contain 5mg of cold-pressed CBD per can.
That decision was made with the Food Standards Agency’s current guidance in mind. The FSA advises healthy adults to limit CBD from food to 10mg per day.
With 5mg in each can, someone can enjoy one SKïP and still have room within that guidance for another later in the day.
But the number on the can is only one part of what you are buying.
-
How the CBD was produced matters.
-
What remains from the wider hemp plant matters to us.
The finished formulation matters.
And so does what you are expecting from the drink in the first place.
Because if you are expecting a SKïP to feel like alcohol or create some kind of obvious “hit”, that is the wrong benchmark.
SKïP is not designed to intoxicate you.
Often, the first thing people tell us they notice is much simpler.
The flavour.
Key Takeaways
-
Each current SKïP CBD can contains 5mg of cold-pressed CBD.
-
The FSA currently advises healthy adults to limit CBD from food to 10mg per day.
-
The 5mg serving was chosen so people could have room for up to two cans within that daily guidance.
-
More milligrams can look like more value, but dose alone does not tell you how the CBD was produced or formulated.
-
SKïP uses cold-pressed CBD because preserving more of hemp’s natural compound profile matters to us.
-
SKïP is not designed to create an intoxicating effect, and individual experiences with CBD vary.
Is 5mg of CBD Enough to Feel Anything?
There is not one experience everybody should expect.
Some customers tell us they notice something after drinking a SKïP.
Others talk about CBD more as something that becomes part of their routine.
And plenty of people notice the actual drink before anything else.
-
The flavour.
-
How refreshing it is.
-
That cold-can moment when the weather is warm or you have been sitting at your desk and fancy something different.
That is usually the most immediate part of the experience.
CBD itself is non-intoxicating.
So if someone drinks a SKïP expecting the sort of obvious feeling they associate with alcohol, that is not really how we would judge it.
SKïP was never designed to give you a dramatic “hit”.
Everyone is different, but a lot of SKïP customers tell us they do feel something after their SKÏP moment, whether that’s feeling calmer after a CBD drink, sleeping better after magnesium, or feeling more focused after Lion’s Mane. This varies from person to person.
That is why we would rather be honest about that than promise exactly what 5mg should feel like for you.
Why Does SKïP Use 5mg of CBD per Can?
The current FSA guidance for healthy adults sits at 10mg of CBD per day from food.
So when we formulated the CBD range at 5mg per can, it meant someone could enjoy one SKïP and still have room within that guidance for another later in the day.
That was the thinking behind the 5mg serving.
And it fits the way we have always wanted SKïP to work.
Something you can reach for as part of your day rather than something that turns into a complicated dosing exercise.
The 5mg tells you how much CBD is in the can.
It also helps you keep track of how that serving fits into your total daily intake.
Why Isn’t a Higher CBD Number Automatically Better?
More milligrams can look like more value.
We understand why people compare CBD products that way. 20mg over 5mg sounds like it would obviously be “better” or “stronger” in every meaningful sense.
But the number does not tell you how the CBD was produced.
It does not tell you what else from the hemp plant remains alongside it.
It does not tell you how the ingredient was handled or how the finished drink has been formulated.
That is why we do not think CBD should become a race to the biggest number on the can.
Dose matters. It just is not the only thing worth looking at.
Does Cold-Pressed CBD Work at Lower Doses?
Cold-pressed CBD is one of the reasons we do not look at dose on its own.
We use cold-pressed CBD because we wanted to preserve more of the hemp plant’s natural compound profile rather than build the drink around CBD in isolation.
That broader profile can include naturally occurring cannabinoids, terpenes and other plant compounds.
It is also where the entourage effect often enters the conversation: the idea that compounds naturally present in hemp may work differently together than they do individually.
SKïP describes its cold-pressed CBD as offering up to 8x the strength of standard CBD isolate.
That is one reason we think the production method deserves attention alongside the milligram number.
We would not turn that into a promise about exactly what 5mg should feel like, because people experience CBD differently.
What the Number Does, and Doesn’t Tell You
|
The 5mg figure tells you… |
It doesn’t tell you… |
|
How much CBD is in the can |
How the CBD was produced |
|
How the serving fits current FSA guidance |
What wider plant compounds remain |
|
A way to compare serving sizes |
How you will personally experience it |
|
Your contribution towards daily CBD intake |
Whether you will actually enjoy the drink |
That is why we look at the process as well as the dose.
What Does the FSA Say About CBD Dosing?
The Food Standards Agency advises healthy adults to limit CBD consumption from food to 10mg per day.
That is a daily total.
It does not mean 10mg from each individual CBD product.
So if you consume CBD from more than one source, those amounts need to be considered together.
-
That could mean a CBD drink.
-
An oil.
-
A gummy.
-
A capsule.
-
Or another CBD food.
And awareness of that daily total is still mixed.
FSA consumer research covering April 2025 to March 2026 found that 44% of recent CBD consumers did not know how much CBD they typically consumed in a day, while 32% reported consuming between 1mg and 10mg.
Knowing how much is in each serving makes keeping track much easier.
Is More CBD Always Better?
No. A larger number tells you there is more CBD in that serving.
That is useful information.
But it does not automatically tell you the product is better or that you personally need that amount.
A higher dose tells you there is more CBD in the serving. It does not tell you everything about the ingredient, the process or whether that product is the right choice for you.
It is a bit like judging a wine purely by its alcohol percentage.
The number tells you something. It does not tell you everything.

What Dose of CBD Do Most People Notice?
There is no single CBD dose that everybody will notice.
Some customers tell us they notice something after a SKïP.
Others describe it more as part of their wider routine.
That is why we would not say: “5mg is where everybody feels CBD.”
Or: “You need 20mg before anything happens.”
People are different.
And CBD should not be judged by whether it produces some immediate or dramatic feeling.
If you are using CBD foods, the more useful reference point is the serving information and the current FSA guidance.
Then see how the drink fits into your own routine.
What If I Drink a SKïP and Don’t Feel Anything?
We would start by resetting the expectation.
If you are expecting SKïP to feel like alcohol, that is the wrong benchmark.
SKïP is not designed to intoxicate you. And it is not designed around creating a dramatic “hit”.
Some customers tell us they notice a sense of calm after a SKïP.
Others don’t have the same immediate effect.
That difference matters.
Functional drinks do not always come with an obvious moment where you suddenly feel something.
Sometimes the first thing you notice is simply that you enjoyed the drink.
That is a perfectly good place to start.
Can I Drink Two SKïPs to Double the Dose?
Two SKïP cans contain 10mg of CBD in total.
That reaches the FSA’s current recommended daily intake for healthy adults.
But that does not mean everybody should automatically drink two.
It means that if SKïP is suitable for you and you have not consumed CBD from another food source that day, two 5mg cans would total 10mg.
If you also use CBD oil, gummies, capsules or another CBD drink, those amounts count towards the same daily total.

The guidance is about total CBD intake across the day, rather than the number of individual products.
Why Dose Isn’t the Whole SKïP Story
The number on the can matters.
It tells you how much CBD is in the serving.
And it helps you keep track of your total intake.
But when someone tries SKïP for the first time, the first thing they usually talk about is much simpler.
-
The flavour.
-
How refreshing it is.
-
Which flavour they want to try next.
-
That is exactly how we like it.
Cold-pressed CBD is part of what makes SKïP different, and the process behind it matters to us.
But the drink still has to be something you genuinely enjoy opening.
So yes, the 5mg matters. It just is not the whole drink.
FAQs
Why Don’t All CBD Drinks Have the Same Dose?
Different products are formulated differently. Serving size, CBD ingredient, product format and how the drink has been designed can all affect the amount shown on the label. The useful thing is knowing how much CBD is in your serving and keeping your total daily intake within current FSA guidance.
Is 5mg of CBD Legal in Every UK Product?
There is no simple rule that makes a CBD product legally compliant purely because it contains 5mg. CBD foods in Great Britain sit within the novel-food regulatory framework, and dose is only one part of that picture. So 5mg tells you the amount of CBD in the serving. It does not, by itself, tell you the regulatory status of the product.
Will I Build a Tolerance to CBD Over Time?
There is not enough evidence for us to give a simple rule about tolerance to CBD in food and drink. We would not recommend increasing your intake simply because a familiar serving feels different. Keep your total CBD intake within current guidance and speak with a healthcare professional if you have questions about your own circumstances.
Should I Increase My Dose if I Feel Nothing?
We would not use “I cannot feel it” as a reason to keep increasing CBD. SKïP is not designed to create an intoxicating or dramatic effect. If you consume CBD foods, focus on your total daily intake and the current FSA guidance rather than chasing a stronger feeling.
How Does CBD Dose Vary Between Drops, Capsules and Drinks?
Different formats can contain very different amounts per serving. An oil may list CBD per drop or per millilitre. A capsule usually gives an amount per capsule. A drink gives an amount per can or serving. That is why the amount of CBD per serving is more useful than comparing the format alone.
Are mg and ml the Same?
No. Milligrams (mg) tell you the amount of CBD. Millilitres (ml) tell you the volume of liquid. So a 250ml drink can contain 5mg of CBD. They are measuring two different things.
Is the FSA’s 10mg Daily Figure a Legal Limit?
No. The FSA’s 10mg figure is precautionary consumer guidance for healthy adults rather than a legal personal-possession limit. It is still the current UK guidance we use when thinking about daily CBD intake from food.
